This course is ideal for students and operators new to the electronics industry, as well as current operators, technicians, and other staff that need to learn or review the fundamental aspects of electronics assembly.

This course is comprised of 18 training modules. The first nine modules are mandatory and cover topics the industry determined are critical for every assembly operator. These include PCB assembly, safety, ESD and product handling, component identification, drawings and specifications, basic PCB and PCBA defects, and the use of standards. The second set of nine modules are optional and include more detailed information about specific areas of assembly such as SMT and TH technologies, hand soldering, conformal coating, hardware, and press fit.

This course is offered in self-paced and instructor-led versions. Both versions are accessed via the IPC Edge Learning Management System. Participants in the self-paced version can complete the course at their own pace. However, organizations may set completion deadlines, as well as monitor the progress of the participants they register for a course. Instructors can stream course materials at any time for presentation to a group of participants in a classroom setting. Participants receive access to the same version of the course to take assessments. The instructor may also elect to have participants follow along with the lesson.

Course licenses are good for 1 year from the date of purchase. Participants have access to the course content 24 hours a day for a period of 90 days from the date of enrollment. For example, if you purchase one or more licenses on February 18, 2021, they will expire on February 18, 2022. If you use those licenses to enroll you or your students on April 10, 2021, both instructors and students will have to complete the course by July 10, 2021.

Absolutely. The IPC Edge Learning Management System allows self-paced students to keep track of their progress throughout the course. Course instructors and designated organization administrators can do the same for their groups of participants.

Yes. Instructors must be a current CIT in good standing to present the instructor-led version of this course. The CIT can be certified to any IPC standard to qualify to teach the course.

Yes. The instructor guide consists of a detailed description of the course contents, including optional hands-on activities that help reinforce learning. Instructors are responsible for achieving proficiency in the content and its delivery.

Yes. Upon completion of the mandatory modules (modules 1-9) participants are prompted to take an exam designed to assess their comprehension of the subject matter. The final exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and must be completed within a 90-minute period. Participants who attain the 80% passing score can download their Qualified IPC Assembly Operator Certificate directly from their online course dashboard. Students may attempt the exam up to three (3) times. Please note that a third and final attempt is permitted after 24 hours of the second attempt.

Yes. Participants who attain the 80% passing score on the final exam can download their Qualified IPC Assembly Operator Certificate directly from their online course dashboard. The final exam covers the mandatory modules (modules 1-9). The title of each completed module appears on your certificate, so make sure to re-download your updated certificate if you complete optional modules at a later date. Qualified IPC Assembly Operator Certificates are serialized with a unique ID number that can be utilized for validation. 

You can register online or request a quote if you would like to pay with a purchase order. You must be a CIT to purchase the instructor-led version of the course. CIT’s can purchase licenses for each of their students and assign those licenses to each student when they are ready to present the course. Licenses are good for 365 days from the date of purchase. Instructors and students will have access to the course for 90 days from the date of enrollment.

Yes. Participants will receive 18 PDHs for completing the nine mandatory modules and 2 PDHs for completing each additional optional module. The total number of PDHs awarded are printed on a participant’s Qualified IPC Assembly Operator Certificate.

No. The Electronics Assembly for Operators course is designed to help individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required to assemble printed circuit boards to industry-approved levels of proficiency. In contrast, standards-based certification programs such as IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) are designed to measure an individual’s understanding of the criteria in the standard. The educational portion of standards-based programs is designed to review content with which participants are already familiar and prepare them to take the certification exam. In other words, participants of standards-based certification programs should already know the terms, concepts, processes, materials discussed in an introductory course such as Electronics Assembly for Operators.
 

Yes. The Electronics Assembly for Operators course is a prerequisite for the IPC-A-610 for Operators and J-STD-001 for Operators courses. These brief 6 to 8-hour courses introduce participants to the terms, concepts, and acceptability criteria of the IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD 001 standards as they apply to the role of the operators, 
technicians, and other assembly line staff. Individuals who successfully complete one or both of these courses receive a serialized certificate of completion with a unique ID number that can be utilized for validation.

The IPC-A-610 for Operators and J-STD-001 for Operators courses are designed for operators, technicians, and other assembly line staff that need to acquire the knowledge and skills required to effectively locate and apply the criteria stipulated in the IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 standards.
