The Importance of IPC in the Semiconductor Industry
Semiconductor chips are essential electronic circuits composed of numerous components such as transistors and wiring fabricated on a semiconductor wafer. When these components are integrated into a single device, it becomes what we know as an Integrated Circuit (IC). The semiconductor industry thrives on continuous innovation developing chips that are smaller, faster, and more cost-effective. The advantage of miniaturization is the ability to increase processing power while reducing physical space and energy consumption.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, semiconductors have taken center stage globally. With the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, digitalization, and other emerging technologies, demand for chips is expected to surge. Industry projections estimate that the global semiconductor market could surpass USD 1 trillion by 2030.
As a global standards and training body, IPC plays a critical role in ensuring quality, consistency, and workforce readiness across the electronics and semiconductor supply chain.
Semiconductor Workforce Development:
As the semiconductor industry continues to expand and compete on a global scale, the demand for a highly skilled workforce including well-trained engineers and technicians has never been greater. The success of upcoming semiconductor manufacturing projects and investments hinges on the availability of quality talent. To fully leverage global investment opportunities, it is essential to strengthen and scale up workforce development programs that are closely aligned with current and future industry needs.
Who can participate?
Professionals from the electronics and semiconductor industries, as well as university faculty members in Electrical & Electronics (E&E), are highly encouraged to participate.
Note: IPC Member can nominate 3-4 candidates. IPC Non-member can nominate 2 candidates. For any enquiry on membership status please connect with Ranee Ramya, Malaysia Country Manager raneeramya@ipc.org
