Closing the Skills Gap in Electronics Manufacturing: How to Prepare the Workforce of Tomorrow

This year, embedded in our members-only IPC IMPACT Europe 2018 event, we featured one session open to the public on a particularly challenging issue – the skills gap.

The chronic shortage of skilled workers is the top business challenge facing the electronics industry, with more than two thirds of our member companies reporting that their inability to find skilled workers is limiting their growth.

At IPC IMPACT Europe, John Mitchell, IPC CEO and President, had the privilege of speaking on a panel with Mrs. Kasia Jurczak, Member of the Cabinet of Commissioner Marianne Thyssen, and Mr. Jean-Hugues Rodriguez, Competence and Workforce Planning Manager, HDC, at Airbus.

With nearly 45 participants in the room from EU institutions, agencies, schools and universities, as well as various industries, this was a great opportunity for a sneak peek announcement of our IPC workforce pledge, as IPC is readying a commitment to provide education, training and career opportunities to more than 500,000 Europeans over the next five years.

Stay tuned for the official launch of our IPC workforce pledge early next year!
