IPC/WHMA-A-620 Training and Certification Program

The A-620 Technical Training Committee has approved release of IPC/WHMA-A-620C training programs. Certification is not revision specific. Currently certified IPC/WHMA-A-620 CITs may purchase the Revision C course materials from IPC or from your preferred A-620 IPC Authorized Training Center.

Space addendum for 620B course materials are available!

(NOTE: The IPC/WHMA-A-620C Space document is still in the revision process. The working group expects to complete the update in 2017. When the document has been updated, the IPC/WHMA-A-620C Space Training will be updated. Until then, please continue to use the revision B and B-Space training for your space applications)

OPTIONAL, CERTIFIED HANDS-ON TRAINING MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE NOW!

The NEW A-620C optional hands-on training has been developed to help users become familiar with the basics of cable and wire harness fabrication.

The Hands-on module is optional for the CIT and CIS. If a CIT wishes to teach the hands-on projects, the CIT would need to complete the extra, 1-day course and complete all the requirements of the projects.

The CIS hands-on training is modular and can be applied to the individual, modular sections of the CIS training. The CIS candidate would need to complete the lecture/discrimination module for his or her certification. Then the CIS candidate would complete only the portion of the hands-on project that applies to the learned material.

Translated Training Materials

Translated training materials for this program are available. Additional languages are continuously being added.

Targeting Excellence in Cable and Wire Harness Manufacturing

Provides Support for Lead Free, Testing and Modular Training at the Application Level!

IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, now at Revision C published January 2017, is the industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation. Classes of products are defined and include criteria for Target, Acceptable, Process Indicator and Defect conditions to support the collection of visual quality acceptability requirements for each class. These criteria are supported by full-color illustrations.

Revision C, developed by task group members from user and supplier companies, represents a consensus among industry leaders. The IPC Wire Harness Acceptability Task Group of the Product Assurance Committee and the Wire Harness Manufacturers' Association Industry Technical Guidelines Committee prepared this standard.

IPC/WHMA-A-620 describes acceptability criteria for crimped, mechanically secured, and soldered interconnection and the corresponding lacing/restraining criteria associated with cable and harness assemblies.

An industry developed and approved program that includes training, certification, and instructional materials based on the IPC/WHMA-A-620C is available to your company. Thousands of individuals have been trained to be IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Trainers (CIT). A comprehensive and technically accurate program, IPC/WHMA-A-620 Training and Certification provides Certified IPC Trainers with high quality materials and detailed instructional plans that have been used for training Certified IPC Specialists (CIS) at all levels, including buyers, sales teams and management. How the IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification Program Works

The IPC/WHMA-A-620 training and certification program has two tiers of instruction. Certified IPC Trainer candidates are sent by their parent companies to receive intensive training and are then certified to provide Application Specialist training.

  • Certified IPC Trainers will participate in a week-long program that has 29 instructional hours. An optional eight-hour hands-on course is available.
  • Certified IPC Specialist training is modular and training/certification can be limited to the topics specific to an individual’s work requirements.

All IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Trainers receive instructional materials for conducting Certified IPC Specialist training. These include:

  • A CD-ROM or digital download with full color teaching visuals (PPT format) illustrating every aspect of the IPC/WHMA-A-620C document and training information required for conducting Application Specialist training
  • An Instructor Guide, (located in the “Notes” section of the PowerPoint slides) providing complete instructions for conducting the Certified IPC Specialist training and testing
  • The IPC/WHMA-A-620C Requirements and Acceptance of Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies document

Certified IPC Specialist training materials, including online exams and certificates, may be purchased from IPC only by Certified IPC Trainers and the companies they represent. Certified IPC Trainers may teach the course at any location and set a training fee per the current  IPC Training and Certification Policies and Procedures

The term for an IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification is two years. Instructor certification and re-certification training is conducted primarily at IPC Authorized Training Centers but may be conducted by the training center at company facilities.
