New laws with the power to affect your business are being developed in every corner of the globe. These regulations — in addition to the drive by leading OEMs to improve their environmental profile — are reshaping your business landscape. And for every part of the supply chain, it is increasingly difficult to stay ahead of the change curve and meet customer demands.
Your challenge: find practical solutions to environmental challenges. New materials, new knowledge and new solutions will be needed.
If you are responsible for helping your organization keep up with legal and customer requirements — OR — if you are responsible for engineering and product development to meet demanding specifications, this unique event offers you the knowledge, networking and options you need.
The sum of this event is greater than its parts:
- Learn from electronics industry experts. Thought leaders from all industry segments will help you understand the latest developments in environmental requirements affecting electronics — and engineering for compliance with them.
- Enhance information exchange by networking in a professional environment. Participate with every link in the supply chain: suppliers, manufacturers and OEMs involved in electronics manufacturing and printed boards.
It’s Not Easy Being Green: Complying with Changing Global Environmental Laws
Tuesday, November 10
This information-filled conference will begin with an address from Steve Andrews, United Kingdom, Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. Mr. Andrews is the UK’s representative to the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). His presentation will cover all the latest information on the EU’s ongoing revision, or recast, of the RoHS Directive, including changes to scope of covered products, restricted substances and requirements for manufacturers.
Throughout the day, you will receive timely updates on the most important and precedent setting environmental regulations and trends including, REACH, China RoHS, halogen free and green chemistry. We’ll also highlight some tools for evaluating and meeting your requirements, including the IPC materials declaration standard and the iNEMI eco-impact evaluator.
Workshop — REACH: Today and the Future
Monday, November 9, 1:30 pm-5:00 pm
Instructor: Michael Kirschner, President,
Design Chain Associates
An in-depth primer on the intricacies of complying with the European Union’s Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization and Restriction of Chemical Substances (REACH) regulation. This session will give you a full briefing on the complex thousand-page document. Designed for those who are less familiar with REACH and need additional background, this workshop is an invaluable introduction to the issues that will be discussed during the conference on November 10.

IPC Materials Conference: Engineering for Compliance
Wednesday, November 11
Understanding the compliance landscape is only the beginning: you also need to address the electronic materials that play such a critical role in today’s products.
This conference will examine the key materials for compliance. Are there too many lead-free alloys? A "dream team" will debate the question in a lively panel session. What effect do halogen-free laminate systems have on printed circuit board reliability? Key technologists will address performance issues. The day will conclude with a session on practical solutions to regulatory challenges.
